Passed Shower TestAug 23, 2009

I selected the River's End Anorak over the other popular brand on Amazon because it has zipper flaps to help keep the water out of the quarter and pocket zips. Some other nice features are the hood (double) and waist drawstrings with quick release cord locks; inside the pocket are belt loops so that when the jacket is folded into it, you can hang it from your belt.
After a couple of minutes standing in the shower (equivalent to a downpour), I was 90% dry, with a little leakage around the chest and belly. The zippers are still the weak spot. The nylon material is medium-light and tightly woven. The water beaded right up and rolled off it. I had planned on using a waterproofing spray on it such as Waterguard or Penguin, but I think I'll wait until the rainy season now.
It took me awhile to figure out how to fold it into the pocket. In order to fold it such that the belt loops are on the outside and useful, I turn the jacket inside out, fold the top half into the pocket, then fold the bottom half into the pocket. It folds into a rectangle about 8"x10" and flattens nicely. Layering it with fleece or a thermal top will work real nicely for travelling.
The only con that I can discern is that the hood doesn't roll up into the collar. It's a minor nit for me, as I can just tuck it under when not in use.
In August 2009, this Anorak was only available in dark blue for the large size. It could be because it's summer and between runs, or maybe it's being discontinued. I would have liked to buy it in yellow for biking visibility purposes.
Update (1/2/2010)
The jacket doesn't breath. After biking 6 miles on a cool morning, I was clammy on the inside and my T-shirt was soaked. However, on the bright side, when layered over a fleece pull over, it kept me nice and warm in 30 degree temps and 25mph winds. I wore a shell over my jeans. The hood also kept my head warm and dry from the snow. No leaks detected in light rain/snow.

Great buy!Jul 15, 2009
By Raymond J. Gustafson I live in Saigon, so when I was back home, I decided to a good jacket to keep me dry while riding on my motorcycle. This was the perfect answer. It keeps me dry in the drizzle, and it's light enough to keep me from getting too hot. Very fast service, too!
